Reading Challenge

Our school is having a Reading Challenge.  Every kid gets a goal to meet, and if you meet your goal you will get to go to the new track at the new Football Field.  The kids who do not meet their goal have to sit in the cafeteria all day and read while the kids who have met their goal get to play at the track for the afternoon.  The theme is “Race to the Finish”.  On Friday it started, and we wore track clothes for the day.  That is what our school reading challenge is like .

Newsela

A few weeks ago we went to Newsela.com.

Newsela is a new website that we learned about.   It’s a little like another website that we learned about that’s called Wonderopolis.org.

The teacher can assign you different articles and you can highlight headings and important information.

Then when you’re done reading it you can take a quiz.

Career Day!

Last Friday it was Career Day!  Career Day is a day when some parents come in and talk about their jobs.  We had four special guests come to our class.  Another class also came to listen.  Our guests were Mr. Hilgenberg , Mr. Bahnks, Mrs. Wilder, and Mr. Grice.  Here are some pictures of them talking at Career Day.

Golden tickets!

In our classroom we have golden tickets.  They are for when you are doing something good. On Fridays we add all of our golden tickets together.  If you have 30 tickets, you get a pass from the treasure box. If you have 40 tickets you get a bucket to use for the whole day of markers.  If you get 50 tickets you can switch desks with someone for the day. If you get 60 tickets you sit in the teacher’s chair.  Also if you get 70 tickets you get lunch with the teacher. There is one that no one has ever paid for.  It is 400 tickets for dinner with the teacher, that’s a lot!  Do you do anything like that?

Talent Show

Monday we had a talent show practice.  Tuesday was our school’s talent show at 6:00 p.m. .  Our school puts on a talent show every year.  Not everyone has to do it ,  but you can if you want to.  You can do anything school appropriate like dancing, singing, drawing, and magic tricks.  That is what you can do in the Talent Show.

We hope you enjoyed the show!

Caught being good

In our school we have a thing called a “Caught Being Good” card.   A caught being good card is a reward you get when you are caught by a staff member doing something nice for a friend or just being nice.  What do you do with a caught being good card? You go to the principal’s office and drop it off in a red basket. On every Friday morning on the intercom our principal pulls 5 or more cards and we win a prize or make plans with our principal. That is what a caught being good card is.

A New Day

Next week we have a concert for music.  3rd and 4th grade will be singing.  The 3rd grade songs are” Right Now”,” Rise and Shine” , and ” A New Day”.   I am very glad it is almost here, and I am scared to sing to all of the people.  The first grade level to sing is 3rd grade.  It starts at 5:30 in the Mable Woolsey Gym.  I can’t wait until next week!

Mad Minute Monday

For the last 3 weeks we have been doing Mad Minute Monday .  Mad Minute Monday is where you get a slip of paper with 50 multiplication problems ,and you have to get 45 answers right to pass that level.  There are levels A-Z. When you go back to level A you will be on division.  We have only been doing this for three weeks so the highest level is C,  but next week we will be on level D if you passed.  By the way we do it for 3 minutes , but you can do it for less time.

Have you ever done something like Mad Minute Monday?

Planting!

This week we planted grass seed, and we can’t wait to see if it grows!  The reason we planted grass seed is because we are learning about plants.  It is fun because we are learning about how a plant reproduces.  We are also observing our plants and seeing if they need water.  It is so exciting. I hope you find this as exciting as I do!

Have you ever planted anything before?  If so what did you plant?

Plants

This week we are learning about plants.

So far we are learning about how plants reproduce, photosynthesis, how plants live, and parts of the plants.  Most plants for their parts have roots, stems, and leaves.  Did you know some plants don’t have all those parts?  This week we also learned about stomata.  Stomata are little holes in the leaves that take in all the supplies a plant needs to live.  Do you know any other facts about plants?  If you don’t look up plants on http://wonderopolis.org/ and you can research many facts.  Then please comment on what you have learned.
